DRAFT

In what ways does your media product use to develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Textual analysis:  regarding the text used within my products, they are short simple and direct. However I did not use strategies such rhetorical question and rhetorical answers, which is common in advertisement especially for a new product entering the market. The reason why I did use such strategies is because I did not and to emotionally fatigue, my target audience with too many mind tricks I just wanted to get to the point. In comparison towards my case studies almost all of their text is simple and gets to the point such as FUSE ODG on his album cover- there is the name of the album, song and artist name – regarding the advertising like their album- with just a simple “out now” or the release date, where you could purchase the single whether it is an digital or physical store.
Imagery: In terms of the photography I used main and common conventions that are common-for example my advertisement poster, as you can see the subjects are looking into the camera which creates an illusion from the audience point of view as if the subjects are directly looking at the audience. This is done to create a bond between the audience and the subject –for example in my case study – this is also considered as breaking the 4th wall between the two subjects and the audiences.
In relation to my 3 printed media products I feel that I used Roland bathes code. The reason why I feel that I used this convention is because in my printed products I did not mention what type of musical element will be incorporated in single but I portrayed it in the imagery, colour scheme and the clothing of the subjects- this links into bathes Enigma code because I controlled what and how much information is given to the audience –in this case the genre of music, this is intended to capture the audience’s interest and attention, this forces the audience to guess what music element will be within the single. – Many printed products use this code to get their audience to think and guess what will be in their advertisement- ….male and female

Music video
Camera angles:  I used modest camera shots, the reason why I decided to do so is because I did not want to make the audience eyes do too much, because using too many camera angles would be frustrating and confusing meaning the audience would not be able to keep up to the plot of the moving image, another reason why I did not use various of camera angles is because I feel that camera angles where created for the audience to feel that they are a part of the moving image—angles of ways of making the audience feel present within a moving image but also creating a type of relationship and alliance with the subjects with the moving image.- the case study that influenced my thinking and changed my opinion on the importance of camera angles is my case study Wiley can you hear me.

The camera techniques I used throughout is close up of each dancers body part to put an emphasis on the dancing as well as portraying the dancer’s great ability to dance as well as inspiring the audience to use theses dances (the reason why the dancing is in steps).  Another point of the music video in which I use a close up shot, is when the male subject taps his oyster on the bus, me using this is to put an empathises on the fact that the male subject will be going on a journey which and the journey starts as soon as he taps his oyster. The call that the male subjects makes out the second subject , I used a close up to put a emphasis on him talking in the phone to show the viewers that he potentially having an important phone call in which may result in an exciting  event  later on the story line. Whilst the two subject were performing in stage I used both close ups of them doing this performance based task to show they feel, breathe and love the music they created and mean every word of it. This was done to also put a strong emphasis and give a real feel of a real performance is being produced.  Throughout my work I feel that I have used Goodwin 1993 theory corresponding with the textual analysis with my music video  because this theory is creating a mood of the video which the music and the visuals entwine into one to produce a general feeling of nostalgia. The narrative structure has to tell a story in terms of a fantasy for example, something that apparent in my music video the led up to the two subjects performing. In terms of two subject in my music video they are the opposite sex there is no androgyny like artists like Miley Cyrus my acts were not portrayed as sexual subjects however they are both portrayed as normal teenagers equally. In terms of the Goodwin theory of 1993, I feel like the music does relate to the lyrics of the song because the song is based about having fun living life and being colourful, the different locations and colours used in video portrays the emotions and joys the lyrics in addition my music video represent these by dancing because dancing is usually related to happiness and joy. Regarding this theory I do feel like its elements has been present constant throughout my music video.

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text
For this question I will be evaluating how the three media texts operate as a package in addition I will be considering how the three texts use similar themes, content, house style, imagery, tone and language. I will be evaluating how my three media texts function as an advertising and promotional artefact. The main question I will be answering is how effectively adverts do and CD Digi packs promote the video product as well as how I will be extending my products if this was to be released to the real world, and how will my product compare to other media products

My advertisement products: The colours and text I used within this particular media product is to have it correlate with the theme of the song, the genre and the look of the artists being so colourful and jovial. Personally is would not have sense if the main colours used for like the background in this advertisement was to be black, because I see a advertisement being the glimpse for the audience to see the artists and from this determine if they would want to purchase their alum/single. More so I decided the advertisement has to represent my artists in every single way, especially for those for who have never even heard if their song and to be able to break the fourth wall I had to represent my artists in a bright light. (dissect the product) comparing my product to destiny child advertisement due to the fact it is the first material that comes out before the album the viewers/ audience get a quick glimpse and insight of what the genre and the songs will be about. They portray this by colours and their outfits fro, these elements you can tell that they are an R&B group, it is not obviously written in the side of the advertisement however, it is presented through the artists and the overall view of the advert. For example on the

My CD cover is colourful and filled with Africans print this is to fit the purpose of the genre of my artists. I could have done a simple colour scheme, however I thought it would not really be recognisable for the audience’s point of view, and they would not automatically know it is an afro beats album which decreases their chances of purchasing the CD. Whilst conducting my personal research I have learnt that the outlook of the CD case depends on the success of the song because if it seems too complicated or it does not correlate with debut music video the audience will assume the genre of songs will be consistent; an example of this Cher Lloyd’s album, personally looking at her dc case it does not really portray the type of song that will be incorporated on her album, her debut song that was presented to the public was R&B but her CD case looked like a pop album and that is the reason why I felt not many people purchased her album.
Album blurb is also parallel to the cover the afro-patterns are consistent however the use of the colour purple portrays the emotional and vulnerable side of the album. Even though the songs within the album says to have fun but the colour used to remind one of their sad moments- meaning leaving the bad at the back and be like the front case full of love and bright happiness, never letting the dark and emotions times of life having an impact on your life and outlook.  I feel that concerning my Blurb I have challenge other CD’s blurb convection/rules for example Destiny child’s blurb which you can see has the same pattern that is present on the front.  Why have I challenged such rule, you may ask? I believe that artistically an album cover and back such portray both of the main emotions and themes common throughout the track to be able to really break that fourth wall to be able to excite the audience you need to do something with taste and meaning, me doing this will not only give the audience awareness of the genre throughout the album but I would not mentally tire them.

CD itself I kept plan, I could of stuck to my original plan of having a side view image on the CD, during that time I decided to look back at my case study and I realised that most of them had no image on their CD but however kept their CD simple with simple details such as, the name of the artist (s), record label, tracks on the album, the name of the album and the copy right/trade mark….. The reason why I did not challenge this convection because I felt that keeping plain and simple will relax my audience’s eyes, due to the colourful case and advertisement poster. Keeping that element simple will and not over crowding the audience with patterns and crazy colours will stress my audience’s mind and would put them of\f want to listen to the CD, to avoid this I used a calm and collected back ground on the CD alongside the gold writing to represent the value of the artists and the black writing for the copy right to represent the making and background help of the tracks on the album allow their brain to relax.

The advertisement poster: I personally do feel my product is effective and that everything has a combination the poster gives off a natural in sticks that it the album will be based on Afro-beats hint the African countries flags as well as the pattern African print the female is wearing their fun facial expression also indicate that everything that will be incorporated within the album will be afro beats based.

4) How did you use technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation?
Editing
Photo shop: I used this application to edit my photography accordingly. Due to the fact I have not used Photoshop since a whole year it was quite difficult for me to adapt to this application, I had go onto YouTube to follow easy steps on how to utilise this application. Overall this application helped me a lot because during the process of my saving some of my photography the pictures I originally wanted to use sadly got deleted and I was stuck with bad photography. At this point I was really de-motivated however I discovered many options that enabled me to edit the pictures I was to use on my front, back of the CD case and the advertisement. Photoshop allowed me darken and lighten my picture as well as changing the location (background)… (Example of procedure)
Final cut I used this application on the apple Macs. This application allowed me to create my video, I was able to shorten and put together certain elements together to create the moving image, in addition I was also able to import sound onto this application to make my moving image come alive.  Using this program had its challenging moments because I was cutting up certain elements of the filming I done to create a jump cut feel about it, however whenever I tried and attempted to move certain elements I had continuously re-render the whole thing  which I personally found frustrating and time consuming.
Illustrator –I used this in the beginning of the construction of my advertisement poster. The reason why I wanted to use this application because it allows playing around with the lettering,  this would of allowed me to make the artist’s name format look unique and appealing to the eyes. However I had difficulties playing around with the lettering,  so instead I used different fonts  for the making of the artist’s names because I felt that it represented the individuality more of each artist’s rather than stretching a letter out because it look appealing to the eye, it had more meaning to it
InDesign
Technologies
PREZI:  I used PREZI to show case the case studies I did and what I learnt about it in each element. This application helped me with my journey to the creation of my printed product, as well as the journey of understanding and knowing the key elements and key features on a CD itself alongside its case (front and back) as well as the advertisement poster. I really enjoy using this programme because it is easy and simple to use and I personally think that this application is really useful to portray one’s journey.
EMAZE- I used this application to portray my pitch to my peers in class. This was an easy application to use and I had not gladly experienced a issue with this programme, it helped me get point across to the audience.
Spider scribe- I really like this programme because it allows to dissect and to analyze effectively each element of the Advertisement poster. This program really allowed into putting certain elements into perspective on how to structure an advertisement poster well and how to send messages to the audience without actually writing the message down. Another element I learnt from using this programme to dissect some advertisement poster it allowed to see how much photography is important because
Construction
Canon – I used this device to capture moving and still images for my music video alongside my printed products. Due to the reason I have not used theses cameras in about a year I had to go to a recap class to learn the main functions and the basics of the camera both video and photography wise. Though I had to also conduct my own research on how to play with the brightness of the camera, because unfortunately when we firstly wanted to shoot the first element of our scene in Stratford everything on the camera came out dark in which, me and partner had to later on re-shoot.
Tripod – I used this object to place the camera on top of it to capture still images for my printed products. The first issue is that I forgot how to attach the camera to the tri pod so at the aid of my teacher I managed to memorise the process.

Research and planning
Blogger – I used blogger a diary to help me store information of journey on gaining knowledge on how to create a moving image alongside a still image package. Through this I knew exactly when my deadlines was, what objectives I needed to pass to be able to have finish this project. This was the main tool I used to plan and see what tasks I have already completed alongside storing all my case studied that I used for reference to help me develop my final products.
Time toast – I used this application to be able to set a visual time frame of when I had certain deadlines to complete specific tasks. This application allowed me to organise my time effectively and kept me up to date with work and did not let fall behind. I really recommend to anyone to use this interactive schedule for business, school or personal matters because it really helps you organise your time and work effectively to the given deadline.
Google – I used this search engine to be able gain examples of real life advertisement poster for albums, CD’s and album’s cases (front, spinal, middle and back). This search engine also gave inspirations and potential patterns and images I may use, as well as helping me with easy steps to programmes such as photo shop and easy steps to use a canon. Without this I personally fell that my printed product with have gone in another direction,  if I didn’t gain some inspiration to think outside the box especially when all of best photography got deleted and I was stuck with blurry images, Google helped me improvise.
YouTube –I used this programme to upload my final moving image. However during the process of creating my final moving image, this programme gave me the option to watch other music video where I could either use some of their camera technique of relevant to mines as well as being able use these same techniques for my own project. Furthermore it also allowed me to set goals and target for what needs to e done to make music video look real and professional , a key factor I learnt from YouTube is not to over edit because it will making the video look really tacky as well as keeping the story line simple and also why and how camera techniques are important because camera techniques are normally used to break the fourth wall, meaning if I used a random camera technique it will confuse the audience and their conception and idea of the whole story line could change. This helped with the development, construction to the final piece this was a huge part of journey in media.
